Here is your suggestion box…

It has been noted that Nashville is a little lax on their posts recently so to all you lovely people out in the great big world tell us what you would like to hear about Nashville!

Maybe we just need some creative sparks…

I know the powers at be here at Metro are working on a system where readers can submit ideas for authors but let’s be rebels and get the ball rolling!

Thanks for taking the time to come check on us here in Nashville.

Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum

I was driving into work this morning and listening to NPR when I heard them mention another museum in Nashville, but get this…it’s another music museum. It’s called the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum. Granted we have the Country one…this Musicians one and another one I know of that’s in the works. That will make THREE downtown in the next couple of years.

I mentioned it at work and the boss thinks it will be a good thing.

We have photos?!?!?

That’s right we have a public flickr group where all you lovely people are welcome to join and add photos to the group. They show up in those thumbnails on the right and are archived in the group photo pool.

So get to it!

Rolling Mill Hill Is on the Way

Village Real Estate has started sending out its slick ads on Rolling Mill Hill, which sits advantageously on the southern bluffs overlooking the river and downtown. So, I took my camera out to the construction site today for pictures. The standing buildings (dubbed “The Art Deco,” “The Victorian,” and “The Powerhouse”) will be joined by 3 other buildings. The offerings will include lofts, flats, and townhomes. This looks to be one of the hotter places to live in our city, especially with the construction of the new ballpark just to the north and with the most panoramic view of the Cumberland River in Nashville.

Everybody stay safe out there, hear?

With all these crazy tornados and the golf-ball-sized hail and thunderstorms, I sure hope you’re all staying safe.

Chez nous, we have a newly-created front yard lake.

Monell’s Etiquette

If you live in Nashville and have never eating at Monell’s, you should rectify that immediately. Sure it’s meat-and-three, but it’s some of the best of its kind. I’d go into detail, but this isn’t a restaurant review. It’s a restaurant instruction manual.

Monell’s is true family-style dining. Each table is set for 12, and unless there are 12 people in your party, you will likely sit with strangers. Striking up conversations with people you’ve never met is half the fun of the Monell’s experience. That in no way means that you have to spend your entire meal chitchatting with the strange guy at the end of the table, or hear all about some old lady’s cats.

We took my sister to Monell’s last night, and were all up for the full-table cameraderie of a meal like you only find in Germantown. We got stuck at a table with three very nice people who happened to be on a business-type dinner and had no interest in being at a table with strangers. Two of the people had been there before and knew what to expect. Nevertheless, they talked among themselves, stopped passing all the dishes of food once they’d been served and never offered to pass anything back. When we politely asked to have a dish returned to us, they were angry we interrupted their conversation. GRRRR.

So, if you come to Nashville, please eat at Monell’s–but only if you want the full Monell’s treatment. Otherwise there are many very nice single-party dining options.

Watch out for weird cars

In case anyone missed me (didn’t anybody? anyone?), I was working an out-of-town gig for the last few weeks.

But I’m back, just in time to tell you about a weird car I saw a few weeks ago (hey, I’ve been busy!) on 8th Avenue North between Germantown and Metro Center. It was obviously not a squad car but it had been outfitted with flashing lights, and the driver of said car was trying to pull over another motorist. Not cool. Probably bad intent involved.

So when I saw a police officer the other day in Baja Fresh (he was eating chicken tacos, if you must know), I asked him for suggestions on what to do if a similar thing happens to me or, ya know, you. He suggested putting on your hazards and driving slowly on to the nearest populated area, like a gas station or grocery store parking lot.

He also said you could call non-emergency (862-8600) or even 911 and ask the dispatcher if a cop is trying to pull you over, because he or she will have called it in.

Be safe out there, ya hear?

Coach Foster Fights Back

I don’t get to watch daytime TV much, so this may be old news, but, have you seen Bart Durham’s 20 episode soap opera? I don’t really know the right words for it, but…but…ya’ll. Seriously, I don’t know what to write. However, I guess it’s working for him because I’m sitting here writing about it, anyway.

London–Paris–Hogsmeade

Metroblogs are cool. I love finding out about the city from denizens of each place. The whole Metroblog philosophy is fantastic.

Today they added Bangalore

Check it out.

Be careful out there.

Is it just me, or, do the same areas of Middle Tennessee keep getting the brunt of the bad weather? If there’s a bad storm, you can be sure that Big Sandy (to the west of us), Lawrenceburg (to the south) and Jamestown (to the east) are all right in the path, every single time.

Be careful out there tonight. Here at Busy Mom studios, we’ll be spending the next few hours with Lisa Patton, Davis Nolan, and, a bottle of merlot.
