Benefit Concert for Winnie

I spoke today with Boots, owner of Windows on the Cumberland about hosting a benefit concert to support the family of Freweini “Winnie” Gebremicael, and it looks like it’s a go. Winnie was a great lover of music, and Boots tells me that there wasn’t hardly a band that played at Windows that she didn’t listen to and support by buying a CD. He and a number of artists are eager to help out. Here’s the relevant info:

When: Monday, June 5th 6PM-Midnight
Where: Windows on the Cumberland
Why: To support Winnie’s two kids, left in the wake of this tragedy.
What: Many artists — bands and singer/songwriters both. I’ll have more details on who specifically will be playing as they are booked, but expect some of the regular faces at Windows. There will probably be food, too — with Charlie providing his delicious vegetarian fare.

There will be no cover, but donations are encouraged (indeed, that’s the point), and all proceeds from booze/food sales and donations will be contributed to the fund for Winnie’s kids. Mark your calendar!

UPDATE: The date has changed from June 12th to June 5th. Mark your calendar .. again.

I walked in to the Night Owl Cafe Friday night to here things very quiet. I was unaware of the situation that happened to Winnie until Mike told me. I’m so used to going in there and seeing her, she would always come out turn the music up and dance with me and the twins. I don’t think things will ever be the same in the Cafe or down the hallway. I send my Love to the family and pray that every thing will turn out ok for them.
