GEC No More…

The Nashville Business Journal reports today that the Gaylord Entertainment Center will soon be dropping the Gaylord name. In accordance with an agreement reached a couple years ago between the Predators and Gaylord Entertainment, the company name will come down on March 16th and the building will be known simply as the Nashville Arena. Until a new naming sponsor comes along, that is.

Does anyone else think that “Nissan Center” has a nice ring to it?

I sure like the sound of the first part. I don’t mind “Center” if we’re sure it doesn’t lead to “NEC” as a nickname.

I’ve been calling it “the arena” since day 1. Aaand things come full circle!

They re-named the SkyDome in Toronto to the Rogers Centre. It’s still the SkyDome to the majority of people, but over years I suppose that will change.

When they built it, there was a contest to name it. I always leaned to “Con Dome”.

    Nissan sounds fine.

I have heard through the sports marketing grapevine that McDonald’s has a sincere interest in acquiring the naming rights to something.

I sh*t you not, they want to own the “McArena.”

    I smell a Los Del Rio resurgence…
