How to Save Two Hours of Your Life and Your Sanity at the Same Time

It’s about three weeks until Nashville’s Metro Council and Mayoral election. And that’s just the first one before the inevitable runoff.

The campaign coffers of each of the major candidates are full and ready to be dumped into the market in the form of media buys during your evening newscast/dinner time. Figure that’s about 5-10 minutes per day for the rest of the month. Prepare to be numbed.

Or you could exercise your most sacred right and just vote early and get it over with.

Early voting starts tomorrow, July 13 at 10 locations around Davidson County.

Click here for all the details.

Then you can just turn your brain off whenever you hear, “My name is X and I want to be your mayor.” Ahh, blissful ignorance.

As our friends at Metroblogging Chicago say, “Vote early and often.”

What would really save me some time is knowing which of the 450 people running for at-large council I shold vote for. Okay, there are really only 26 people runnng, but there might as well be 450. That’s just ridiculous.

I’m thinking of just trying to spell a five-letter word using the first initial of their last names as a way to pick my votes. Scrabble voting, as it were.

I and a coworker actually collaborated in the process to figure out who to vote for in the at-large race. He and I tend to be politically similar (rather left-leaning), so we just googled everybody until we came up with the 5 that we felt were best for us. It took a little time, but it was quicker than each of us doing it on our own. We each had to explain to the other why we included/excluded a candidate, so now we feel like we’re about as well-informed as we can reasonably be.
