Let’s Have a Little Tea Party!

Courtesy of your tax-averse legislature, it’s time for another Tennessee tax free weekend, everybody. You know the drill; you can save that onerous 9.25% on school supplies, clothing and computers costing up to $1500.00.

Thanks to the efforts of a certain feline member of our household that has managed to pry off several keys from my ancient Dell laptop, leaving me forced to write like e.e. cummings, I am in desperate need of a new laptop. Unfortunately, having just returned from vacation, I don’t have a grand and a half to spend.

But let’s pretend I did. Where would you send me and what should I buy? This is not intended to spark a Mac vs. PC debate. I’m already bi that way, so I am open to any and all suggestions.

My trusty 4.5-year-old desktop is currently wheezing like an 80-year-old emphysema patient so I’m considering a purchase myself. Though it’s hard to justify adding a third computer to my desk.

The company sent me a Dell Latitude D620 factory refurb a year ago and I haven’t had a single problem with it. But I am not hard on computers and I think the only reason my old Compaq is wheezing is from watching too much youtube and that I recently loaded Photoshop on it.

However, my friends with Macs say they love their computers, but they have to get them serviced all the damn time (the laptops, that is).

Mac all the way, and I’ve never gotten it serviced. Get a MacBook and you’ll never look back.

Yeah…why not go for another Dell. Actually – if your box was working ok – just fix the keyboard. It isn’t that tough, and will save you a ton.

If not…what kinda laptop is it and how much you want for it?

The MacBook Pro is quite simply the best laptop ever made. Of course, it is not cheap.

I also say get a Mac. I’ve had several (actually, I still *have* several) and have never had to get them serviced, whether they were laptops or desktops.

The MacBook Pro is nice, but unfortunately too expensive to qualify for the tax free weekend (Max is $1500.) I vote MacBook. I have one and I love it.
